England takes T20 series

Abu Dhabi: England bowlers kept their tension in the last over’s to pull off a thrilling 5run win over Pakistan in the 3rd and last Twenty20 series here on Monday to take the series 2-1.

Set 130 to win Pakistan were going along well at 107-4 with 23 needed off the last three over’s and 17 off the remain two but Stuart Broad and Jade Dernbach did not lose guts and pulled off the win in the final over. Broad dismiss a well set Umar Akmal (22) off the third ball of the one before the last over and gave away just four runs, leaving Jade Dernbach to defend 13 in the last, which he successfully did, removing Misbah-ul Haq (28) off the final delivery.

Dernbach ended with 2-24 and most importantly gave World Twenty20 champions a surprising win. Pakistan won the first match by 8 runs while England win the 2nd by 38 runs -- both played in Dubai. Pakistan had lost opener Mohammad Hafeez for a second nought of the series but Awais Zia (23) and Shafiq added 40 for the second wickets before Zia was trapped leg-before by Graeme Swann and Shafiq was run out.

Captain Misbah and Umar Akmal added 37 for the 4th wickets and when it looks as if that would help Pakistan cross the line England pulls back with remarkable resilience. With 13 needed off the last over Shahid Afridi took a couple before he was run out as taking a 2nd off the next. The next 3 balls produced singles and a wide and with 6 needed off the last ball, Misbah was bowled. Earlier off-spinner Saeed Ajmal finished with 4-23 -- his 3rd four wicket haul in the direct form of the game -- to restrict England to a modest 129-6 after they win the toss and batted.

Ajmal, who cracked England in the preceding 3-Test series with 24 wickets to help Pakistan to a 3-0 rout, put the brakes on his rival's movement. Opener Kevin Pietersen top scored with 62 not out, keeped one end intact during his 52-ball knock for his 7th T20 fifty. He hit 6 boundaries and a 6 off the last ball of the innings. Ajmal provide Pakistan with the get through after England raced to 29 by the 5 over, dismissing Craig Kieswetter (17) off a lofted shot at long-on where Shoaib Malik takes the catch.

Kieswetter had hit a 4r and six off paceman Umar Gul in the third over. Pakistan had Ravi Bopara caught behind off paceman Aizaz Cheema for one and Eoin Morgan run out for nine by Ajmal accounted for Jonny Bairstow (3), Jos Butler (7) and Samit Patel (16).The match ended England's long tour of the United Arab Emirates where they lost the Tests but win the ODI series 4-0.

No rift in the Indian team, says Srinivasan

Amid intense speculation of a rift between India captain MS Dhoni and his assistant Virender Sehwag, the BCCI said there is nothing to be disturbed about. BCCI President N Srinivasan also term media news alluding to the rift as blown up.

Srinivasan said there is no rift in the team, adding he has check with the team's media manager in Australia. You have no information of it. I don't think there is any rift in the team. There is not anything to be concerned about, Srinivasan told reporters after a meeting of the IPL Governing Council in New Delhi.BCCI Vice head Rajiv Shukla said Sehwag had been misquoted and added the supposed rift was speculation on part of the media.

Sehwag has been misquoted. That's what we came to understand. It is only a speculation by a section of media. I don't think there is any problem. BCCI Srinivasan is in constant touch with the team, Shukla said. Talking about the replacement policy, Shukla said the playing XI in the ongoing Commonwealth Bank Series is sure by the manager.

The bad blood between Dhoni and Sehwag appear to spill out when the latter accuse his skipper of not being truthful on the team's contentious Rotation policy. Talking to the media after India were defeated by Sri Lanka at Brisbane, Sehwag said the senior players had not been up to date that their slow fielding was an issue and added Dhoni had said the Rotation policy has been put in place to ensure the youngsters in the team get a chance to bat on the Australian pitches.

On Sunday, after India’s 110-run loss to Australia, Dhoni had said the top 3 batsmen were not playing every game as they very slow on the field.Dhoni had said on Sunday the top three are not being played in concert as it would affect India's fielding, adding that they could not break down fielding in the big grounds of Australia. They are safe fielders, but on the slower side the strain would be on them. There would be breakdowns. You can pull a weight or hamstring, Dhoni said.

Sehwag, who has been under pressure for runs in the Commonwealth Bank Series, said he is available for all matches, but without there was any rift in the team. We are one unit and a happy unit. He (Dhoni) is the captain… He can say anything he wants.

Gambhir back India's rotation plan

Adelaide:13th feb.
Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir says India's excellent four-wicket win over Australia in their one-day international had corrected the team's contentious rotation policy.

India's decision to rotate openers during the series saw master batsman Sachin Tendulkar missed the Adelaide match on Sunday. deny him another chance to score his 100th international century. The decision to go around players has angered the likes of Indian great Sunil Gavaskar, who believe the best team should always take the field.

However, Tendulkar's absence enables Gambhir to return to the side to partner Virender Sehwag at the top of the order and he twisted a man-of-the-match performance with 92 from 111 balls.Gambhir said a busy playing plan meant rotating players was a valid part of international cricket, adding that the Indians were blessed with the playing depth to profit from the tactic.

Steven Finn said redemption for England in ODIs

Dubai: Young pace man Steven Finn said on Wednesday he hope a fresh and young England squad will put the 3-0 Test series rout by Pakistan in the rear them in the one-day series which starts next week.

The 21-year-old watched from the sideline as Pakistan registered a first-ever loss against England who persisted with James Anderson and Stuart Broad besides playing spinners Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar.Frustrated at not being selected in the Tests, Finn hoped the one-day series will offer him and the team with an chance to forget the Tests.

I think this one-day series is going to be a great chance for us to put what's gone on under the carpet. I hope, moving towards in this ODI series, I am going to get a chance to show what I can do," Finn said. The last of Finn's 12 Test appearances came against Sri Lanka in 2011. "It is infuriating. I am getting very good at combination drinks for the boys. I've sort of got used to it over the last 12 months. But it's not the sort of thing you enjoy," said Finn, the youngest to complete 50 Test wickets for England.

Finn said last year's India tour where England was blanked 5-0 in the one-day series was a erudition process. "After the India series, I've got self-confidence in the way I bowled - and I hope I can bring that forward into this series. I think this one-day team is a very youthful, very stirring place to be," said Finn. Pakistan and England meet in the first of four one-day matches in Abu Dhabi on February 13. Steven Finn show confidence his experience of bowling on the slow subcontinent pitch will help him here.

I play a fair amount of cricket in the sub-continent with the youth teams. The skills you have to use out here, the guys perceptibly did very well in the Test matches, and it's impressive I can do well out here as well," said Finn. Finn has so far taken 15 wickets in 11 one-day internationals.
